Comic 5 - Do Not Attempt
8th Jun 2011, 12:00 AM
I am a day late. I have no excuse. I am a lazy, procrastinating bastard, which is why the comic is a day late. I will hopefully get the next comic up on time, which will hopefully restore balance to the universe.
Catapult modeled after one in a Wile E. Coyote cartoon. Perhaps Jack is attempting to manipulate the laws of physics?
Oh, and Misc. Error begins its first semi-coherent story arc next week, so look forward to that. A new character will be introduced in the middle of the arc, and I think you will all love him.

The art is improving, but I'm worried you are going to rely on the "Guy character is wacky in an unrealistic way and the girl character is the straight man" comedy duo sort of thing. If you mixed it up a little I think you would really have something.

@Marlowe: Don't worry, things will get mixed up a bit in a few strips. I'm at my best with character-based humor, and I plan to introduce many new characters over time to keep the humor fresh. I'm still in the introductory stage right now, so I can't just throw in characters from out of the blue, but once the story progresses to that point, the comic will gain some variation in its humor.

I disagree with Marlowe's concerns: I think a simple comedy structure works great for a beginner. If it gets boring and repetitive, start a new comic that isn't.
Anyway, good poses, clear backgrounds... nice work. Your grass in the last panel is a bit lazy - perspective makes no sense, grass in back is as large as grass in front - but that's a minor point!

Where did he get the sharks from?

@Lee V. The same place Team Rocket gets all of their giant robots. :)

I'm not saying beginners' are going to crap out something brilliant but if they don't start tinkering with these structures and trying to find their own voice then they're never going to grow in the first place.

I'm subscribing now :) Your art style has taken a leap and a rocket launch.
I like the over the top stuff like this. Was not expecting the catapult at all well done.
